5 Fun Number Activities For Your Toddler

By: Anna L

It is never too early to start teaching your toddler the numbers and how to count. It will be a great advantage for your son or daughter to have this knowledge when they start preschool or school. Here are some fun number/counting activities for your toddler. Toddlers learn through play so have fun and play a lot.

1. Count -Start at an early age with numbers. You can pretty much count anything. How many spoons to eat of your food, how many books you have, how many steps to an object, how many toes and fingers, how many... Also in everyday play, count out loud with your toddler, if you are building blocks count the blocks you are stacking.

2. Poster - Buy or make a poster with numbers on it. Refer to the numbers when you play with your toddler - I see that you have 2 red blocks. Have your toddler point to number 2 on the poster.

3. Toys with numbers - Buy some toys, puzzles, toy phones, blocks etc for your toddler. Learning comes natural, when your toddler plays. Number books are also a great way of teaching your toddler the numbers.

4. Rhymes and songs - Helps your toddler remember the numbers. Some well know songs are, 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed... One little two little three little Indians...

5. Color numbers - If your toddler loves coloring this is a great way to learn numbers. Get a coloring book with numbers or print off numbers from the computer that she/he can color. Check out the Coloring program with Letters and Numbers at www.hepmeandmyfamily.com.
